Happy National Lasagna Day!
I’m KILLING it with these food posts in July. Or – I just happen to have made lasagna in July and I happened to realize that National Lasagna Day also happened in July and it was convenient! Either way, another recipe is in the works for you today. Derek and I LOVE this lasagna – recipe given to me by my mama. What really sets this apart from other lasagnas is that we use sausage as well as hamburger for our meat mixture!
Ingredients
1 box lasagna (will use nearly all of this!)
1 lb hamburger, browned & drained
1 lb pork sausage, browned & drained
1 jar pasta sauce
1 container cottage cheese
1 (2 cup) package shredded Italian blend or Mozzarella cheese
Step 1
Brown & drain your hamburger and sausage together. I do this together instead of separately in order to start blending those two flavors from the beginning, plus it saves time!
Step 2
Mix your browned meat with your cottage cheese and pasta sauce.
Step 3 – Start layering!
This is the fun part! Layer a little bit of pasta sauce in the bottom of your 9×13 casserole dish. Then, layer UNCOOKED lasagna noodles (yes, uncooked!), a bit of the meat mixture, and cheese. Repeat layers until you’re out of ingredients. This recipe is usually about four layers.
Step 4
Put your lasagna in the oven at 350 degrees for one hour. At one hour, check the layers for warmth, that the noodles are cooked and for melted cheese. If needed, put back in the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes. After baking, let it rest for 15 minutes before cutting and digging in!
I can easily see why lasagna is Garfield’s favorite foods. I hope you love it!
